Ah that sucks. Am I missing a lot if I can only use LLDV?
Not much since Chroma Weight is rarely used in real content.

( I put ''chroma weight'' in the filename when I see one)
Ok thanks I'll check those out. I saw Vincent's video saying how the TV-LED is better because the colors are more accurate. But I have also seen comments here that that video doesn't mean much. Is TV-LED more accurate for the colors or does that video not matter?

Better color mapping, maybe? but I wouldn't say LLDV has inaccurate colors as long as the player doesn't have bugs (shield red push) and Chroma Weight is not used by the colorist.

The difference shown in Vincent's video is definitely Chroma Weight and the Spears and Munsil montage he used is a VERY bright grade(4000+) which is not representative of the average Movie HDR grading (0-1000nits) so indeed, his video doesn't mean much for real content viewing.

Oh good. Does the X700 have bugs like that?

Red push, no.
It has issues with EDID higher than 1000nits though but your TV is only 500nits so you're ok.

Ok good thanks, cause I saw another comment of yours saying the X800M2 having less bugs than X700 and I thought maybe I should have gone with that one.

For just DV playback, the x700 and oppo have the DT-DL TS/MT2TS rip bug which locks the player if you try to play two files in a row (quite annoying).
The X800m2 does not have this bug.

Good to know. I thought I wasted my money for a second because apperantly I cannot do TV-LED but with LLDV for real content there is no difference I guess.

@RESET_9999, from that GH link you shared I learnt how to unpack LG firmware for my TV. Currently browsing it, unsure if I'll find something relevant to our DV discussions (tmax,...).

Oh I found a dolby folder with DoVi configuration files, though there's no Tmax > 600 that I found. Those files have a lot of detailed info. Maybe not relevant, who knows

So we have only one device capable of true TV led and is the Apple TV and, of course, the UHD BD players (Oppo, Sony etc)
For Player Led (LLDV) we have more players (shield, homatics, ugoos, Firestick etc) But none of them is without problems (inaccurate colours, inaccurate EOTF tracking, inaccurate brigtness rendering etc.).
Correct?
So, BD players apart, maybe the best device presently is the ATV with Infuse.

Yes, it's either the ATV: I'm pretty sure cmv4.0 is broken and all my TV-LED measurements from the ATV were noticeably darker than the Shield and X800m2
or the Shield: Red push, lots of dropped frames, Resume is buggy, the UI is not great and also buggy.

On my end, I switched to Kodi C2 internal app with MKV and I use my X800m2 only for FEL or when the lossless audio is important (action movies).

Aside from chroma weight what is wrong with LLDV? Does it have all those issues ragico stated? Or are those issues just with those other players like the shield, the firestick and those others he mentioned?

Of course is a matter of choice. I cannot stand the shield problems and have sold it months ago. I can live with the P8 cm2.9 in Infuse and hope that Apple will also add support for P8 cm4.0. As for lossless audio, Apple converts everything in PCM but the quality is excellent to my ears. So, as you, I use the X800m2 only for Fel and for Dolby Atmos when needed, my Sonos soundbar does not support Dts HD/Dts X

The difference between Player-led and TV-led Dolby Vision is significant on a calibrated/capable display:
  1. For Player-led (or Fake TV-led in this conversation), the player only knows a small amount about the display through the HDMI EDID handshake, primarily MaxCLL. This is not enough information to fully dynamically tone map. This is better than static metadata HDR10 but leaves most dynamic tone mapping capabilities on the table since a display's characteristics are more complicated than just its max luminance and/or max APL.
  2. For TV-led, The display's 3D LUT, chromaticity+Luminance at all APL levels, near-black performance, and additional display characteristics are all considered while mapping.

ATV already supports cmv4.0 P8 and as I said, it doesn't work well. In TV-LED it is not as bad as this but I still can see it: https://slow.pics/c/VGBhNeQU

it's fine as long as your edid is under 1000nits.
