What i don't seem too understand is why Plex allows me to play Dolby Vision movies via the plex app on the LG store but not via the plex app on my shield pro 2019.
if you wish for more info about my files i got a ton more Dolby Vision movies on my pc
Is this a licence issue? Image

I think the Sony dv support is the worst.

This is surprising that nobody tried to backup this android application, to try it on another android device
Thanks for that link. I've found that single layer DV plays okay in Sony Android TVs but as the article suggests they will not play dual layer remuxes. :(

Shout out to anyone with a Philips 804 for a backup of their native video player app. :)

Yes that is correct its a licencing issue as LG opted for the Dolby Vision Dual Layer licence which Plex and Xplay both use the included media player that is built into LG's tvs iirc. Nvidia must have opted for the single layer only licence which frankly sucks as you can't playback the mp4 DV DL movies on the 2019 Shield as it will play as HDR10 only. What is sad is that the 2019 Shield has the raw power to playback all the DV DL movies and even Gemini Man Dolby Vision DL at 60fps.

The Shining (74.3 Mb/s) has a similar bitrate to Gemini Man (81.0 Mb/s) instead of 59.940fps its 23.976fps and it plays just fine over wireless ac. The stream size on The Shining is actually larger then Gemini Man so it appears that the wireless isn't the bottleneck at all. For some reason they choose to do a Full Enhancement Lay(FEL) on Gemini Man which I remember reading somewhere that is not recommended by Dolby at all because of the power needed to play it back. I believe that I just confirmed that it has to be the LG Alpha 9 SoC not being able to playback HFR 60fps HDR10/Dolby Vision correctly. The Shield 2015/2017/2019 will playback the HDR10 60fps movie just fine over gigabit Ethernet. I can not completely rule out that it still could be that the 2 year old Dolby mp4muxer isn't handling 60fps DL DV correctly though but even using the DVDfab DV DL it still won't play on LG tvs without the stutter.

on the plex forums someone started this threat might be worth a read:
https://forums.plex.tv/t/feature-reques ... /532651/18

aswell as on nvidias site:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/fo ... n-support/

from what i'm reading their exoplayer seems to be updated too be able to play dual layer, but i guess its still a licence issue, maybe someone can make a player that is compatible but i highly doubt it. i'm pretty disapointed in nvidia myself creating such a high end device and then opting out of dual layer :/

this is also why I have been so hesitant to make a tool for easy single-layer mp4s. I don't want to perpetuate any pseudo tech. I'll stick with true dual layer, and my next update should allow for hd-audio + atmos in the mp4s it creates.
Thanks. Great work.

Gemini Man HDR10 plays fine at the correct 60 fps on LG C9 oled via external hdd. Only the Dolby Vision version runs at choppy framerate. I think mp4muxer is the culprit.

no, i don't think the culprit is mp4muxer because the file it produce looks correct.

I think it's just the SoC that can't handle the video bandwith it requires to make the dv picture at 60fps.

Man I really wish I opted for the OLED model instead of 50PUS7504 which I just purchased.. I ordered Chinoppo to play my DV content since my TV couldn't handle any other files than DVDFab single-layers and it looks like they're not the real deal. I had no idea Philips OLED TV's can handle dual-layer DV files.. Thought that was just LG thing!

From my experience and some other's here, Gemini Man DV single layer does not have choppy playback because it is essentially hdr10 version which runs at correct 60 fps. It is Gemini Man DV dual layer that has choppy playback because it is true DV and somehow the remuxing process messes with the framerate or whatever.

I can not completely rule out that it still could be that the 2 year old Dolby mp4muxer isn't handling 60fps DL DV correctly though but even using the DVDfab DV DL it still won't play on LG tvs without the stutter.

gemini man 60fps dual layer + 5.1 AC3 play just fine with the Sony x700. I watched the whole movie without any issue... so no problems with the mp4muxer
When i add lossless audio then it starts stuttering.

hey, where are we at again with the x700? iirc, bdmv / m2ts / iso / mkv all just play in hdr10 and only dual layer dv mp4's play in dolby vision, from both plex dlna server and usb hdd.. sound about right? do 24fps mp4s with hd-audio play ok?

yep, that's right. Single layer mp4 too is supported.
And i'm not sure if the dlna server is fast enough with the 100mbps ethernet, I use an external SSD.

DV mp4 only works with lpcm 7.1 (or regular AC3/e-AC3 of course)

oh wow, that's quite the deal breaker. my TV is essentially no different then. strange why it won't read the hd-audio mp4box forces in. I could see maybe thd atmos having an issue but dts-hd ma should be fine :/

It's been a while since I've played with mp4muxer, mp4box and ffmpeg.
I used to remux both layers with ac3 audio into a mp4 container which works fine in both the Plex and Xplay app on my LG C8.

However it seems some people remux the hd audio track into lpcm 7.1 audio.
I assume you only lose the Atmos positional metadata.
But it's still better than ac3 since it's lossless.

But does the lpcm 7.1 audio play in the LG plex or Xplay app?

I know I can probably not hear the difference using the built-in speakers and regular arc only allows up to eac3 (dd+)

But if it's able to play then it's better for preservation I guess. Since playing it on devices connected to my amp directly will benefit

Are you saying that x700 plays dual layer dolby vision mp4s? From network share or usb?
Where can i find more info?

Yes, from dlna media servers or the usb port. It also has dual hdmi out for if your AVR doesn't do 4k dv passthrough.
