With libredrive the mkb version is irrelevant. That firmware is perfect and what I use on my own drive.

You are already on the best firmware for that drive. Leave it on 1.00. If you have trouble reading a disc, clean the disc.
I'm just curious about the fact that my highest AACS version is 61, while I have seen (on YouTube, I think) there being Blu-Ray discs of higher AACS version. This is what I meant with "that this firmware can't read". Obviously, damaged or dirty media is going to have nothing to do with the firmware.
The AACS version has nothing to do with the firmware either. The only reason you would ever consider updating the firmware is if you burn a lot of discs and the drive isn't working particularly well with a certain brand of blank media. So, no, never update it.
Cheers :D

Thanks for clearing that one up for me! I have no significant knowledge on any of this as I'm very new to the whole space of disks in general (was never greatly interested, until very recently). I just noticed that the "highest AACS version" went up, since the media's version went up. Seems like this is not set in stone, and I successfully read that one also. Good to know!

Each disc has an AACS revision. When you insert a disc and the drive initializes it, if the disc has a higher AACS revision than what the drive has seen previously, it updates itself to the version that is on the disc. You may notice this happens every now and then when you purchase the latest release movie discs.

Unless you only ever use libredrive to read the disc.

The AACS revision on the drive should still update like normal, it just doesn't get revoked when using LibreDrive.

Are you sure? If you never authenticate with the drive my understanding was it didn't update. I could be wrong I suppose.

My drive has only ever been used in a LibreDrive way, but the AACS version is 78. So I think MartyMcNuts is right, the AACS updates, but LibreDrive means it doesn't matter.

Odd. I really hate aacs. It's an overly complicated mess of a house of cards. Simply inserting a disc should not update the drive in any way. But oh well. Hardly matters in reality.

Yes, as soon as the drive begins to initialize a disc, the AACS revision is checked and updated if necessary.

I'm not sure what you're asking? Or why you're asking in this thread?

Those errors mean the optical drive was unable to correctly read the optical disc. The standard advice is to gently clean the disc and try again.
