That won't work. You're going to need to use the modified dos flasher that Teddy made to flash it from a USB dos stick. I don't have a link handy but it may have been posted on this forum. I know it's on RedFox's forum for sure and I think myce posted it, as well, somewhere. It's not a super fun flashing process but it'll get you downgraded and working again.

Because you're desperate to get this working I dug up a link to Teddy's post on RedFox. Apologies for posting to another site.

That should get you up and running again with 1.02. Then you can cross flash if you so desire. But get it downgraded first.

If you are referring to the answer "Asus 3.02 clean firmware with flasher (to allow crossflash or easy upgrade from previous versions)", I have tried that and I get "Write DRAM NG 05/24/00".

Any idea's?

Will that work on a win10 machine? And will I have to remove all drives but the LG drive. If I must, I will do it but it is not fun. My only other desktop is working on a WD Red and won't be free for another 3 days.

It won't be a windows 10 machine when you boot from a DOS stick. ;) It'll be a DOS machine so yes, it'll work. I know that seems like I'm being glib but I'm being serious. You'll be booting DOS off the USB stick and running the patched dos flasher that allows the downgrade to work. Follow his directions and it'll work.

Ah, P.S. I forgot Teddy had to update the bin file. Use this bin file with those instructions and that flasher:

https://forum.redfox.bz/threads/anydvd- ... ost-479726

This has the proper data that needs to be flashed to read discs.

Thanks, I will be trying this today and report back on the results.

Just tried this and it worked perfectly. Am trying with my Hacksaw Ridge UHD and it is working. On my Asus drive it would always fail. It is currently throwing errors but it has gotten farther than my Asus drive. The main point is that it now works and is reading UHD disks. Thanks for all the help.

Same UHD disc (Amazing Spider-man 2)

LG with 1.02 FM is getting about 25 M/s peak
ASUS with 3.01 FM is getting about 32 M/s peak

Will definitely be looking into x-flashing the LG before putting into the closet as a backup drive.

Can anyone confirm that this drive will work as long as I don’t upgrade the firmware?

It is not on the "friendly list" so I must assume that it will not work. Why not get a internal drive from the friendly list and an external case (USB).

Just to let everybody know, I got my WH16NS40 from NewEgg (NJ warehouse) and it came with SVC code NS50 but ROM v1.03 (firmware?) and a date of 11/2017.

I'm going to install it tomorrow and downgrade it. I'm assuming even though it appears to have come with 1.03 that it can still be downgraded and work OK with UHD?

You should first dump your 1.03 firmware before downgrading.

Anyway, it can be downgraded and made UHD friendly again.

For clarification, I was given the following two links that "TeddyRaspin" had posted and it did the job perfectly.

These posts will get you through the process perfectly.
