LG BH16NS55 Firmware

Post by barrett70 »

Hi, I'm coming back to you to find out if anyone has a solution for this problem:
Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD HD 8.2.1.3, BDPHash.bin 17-07-03)
HL-DT-ST BD-REBH16NS55 1.02 N000200SIK9RFAN8331
Drive (Hardware) Region: 0 (not set!)
Current profile: BD-ROM
Media is a Blu-ray disc.

Total size: 29233824 sectors (57097 MBytes)
Video Blu-ray label: THE_REVENANT
Media is AACS protected!
Drive supports bus encryption!
Disc wants bus encryption!
Drive's signature of the Dv value seems incorrect (bus encryption)!
ERROR processing Blu-ray disc!
The reader does not recognize the hash anymore.
I try all flash methods it still does not work.
Thanks.

Note that 3.03 (that blocks the loophole) is the version that is on the disk that comes with the drive.

3.02 works fine both on the Asus and on the LG 16NS40.

Is it possible to use the official flasher tool and go to 3.02 still, or does it default to the latest available version?

OK - answering my own question, I updated it to 3.02 with the exe i'd downloaded. I disabled internet connectivity just in case it tried to pull the latest firmware.

Now I can read UHD discs again.
Was this achieved using the programs in the zip file you posted over at the Redfox forums a while back + a dump of the original firmware?
Yes.

some users don't read to good(do not update firmware!!!). I hope Friday when I get home my drive is 3.02 not the newest bios. This window is closing fast..... I would love that user to post his results downgrading and hope his hash keys work again.

Hi, do you have a way to cleanly erase an epprom so that I can reflash my bh16ns55 to 1.02 because I think the epprom does not erase properly and there are some old firmware residues. This is why my player does not recognize the hash of my disks.
Thanks.

@barret70

Here are the attached zip file for you and the steps you need to properly downgrade, erase, and flash eeprom.

1) Prepare an USB stick with Rufus making Dos Bootable and unzip on USB root the attached file.

2) Disable CSM in bios or enable the Legacy Boot.

3) Disable any other SATA device except the BH16NS55 unit.

4) Make sure your BH16NS55 is connected to a primary SATA Port instead of a Slave one.

5) Boot from USB stick and at the command prompt type "DOSFLASH" and press enter.

6) Sometimes you should need to close DOSFLASH and retype 2 or 3 times as there could be a bug in detecting BH16NS55.

7) At the DOSFLASH question answer N and press the relative number of that unit (2 in my case).

8 ) Now press 'E' (without quotes) to fully erase the MT1959 (MediaTek) eeprom.

9) At the command prompt, retype DOSFLASH and select the device (if it does not detect it retype dosflash again).

10) This time press 'W' (without quotes) and enter, as filename, DUMP102.BIN and press enter.

11) The writing process will start. Wait patiently to the end of the task. When you will see the Data checksum at the end, you will notice the blue led lightning and your unit will be reinitialized.

12) Turn off PC, connect other devices, restore previous bios settings and try your "new" BH16NS55.

Let me know if this fix your issues.

Did you try first MakeMKV hashed keyfile ?

According to the log you posted, you're using an old AnyDVD HD version.

Disc ID hash is calculated by software. It has nothing to do with firmware device, as any UHD disc has its own Disc/Volume ID and it is the same
regardless of the UHD unit you're going to use for read it.

So it does not seem a firmware issue but rather a software issue.

Here is a 1.01 BH16NS55 full dump I made from my original device which has always
worked on several similar devices (BH16NS55/Asus of other users).

Try it. (Of course you MUST use the DOSFLASH version I provided you, erasing eeprom first, and then writing the new firmware).
