THIS GUIDE WAS GREAT!!

Super easy and had me ripping my 4k UHD Blu Rays in 5 minutes.

Some of these guys are selling pre-flashed drives with a $55 markup. I guess I cant knock the hustle but there is literally no work involved, MakeMKV gives you all the info you need about your drive and you literally run two commands. I'm in the bay area and central computers stocks most of the supported Blu-ray drives, enclosures and adapters you need.

THANK YOU MAKEMKV FOR AN AMAZING PRODUCT + EASY & CLEAR GUIDES!!
It’s not a hustle and there’s plenty of work involved. And there’s a reason why Central Computers stocks what they do lol. Funny though how you call us hustlers and then praise the guide we’ve created (and my part is infinitely smaller than the other hustlers involved). Thanks for visiting the site now run along....

Wish I had stumbled on this post BEFORE I recently purchased a WH16NS40 off Amazon. It has 1.05 on it. I have tried the suggestions here and everywhere else I can find, but I keep getting the "CheckSum is mismatched. Drive will go to BOOT mode Please retry again." Error.

And... because I am a brand new user, I cannot reach out, via PM to message someone who I can pay to remotely downgrade my drive. :(

PM me please.
That's the problem - new users do not have the ability to send PMs when they're still "under moderation".

.....
Ok, I've changed my way to rip 4K Blu-ray and bought a drive from ASMCOM. So I can sell my drive without opening the enclosure before.
......
The drive arrived today. It's a BH16NS40 with firmware 1.02mk for WH16NS60.

Now, the first two 4K-BDs are ripped without any problems.

But in the MK-firmware file exists a version 1.03 for WH16NS60 and a 1.05 for BH16NS40 .... could it make sense to change to one of these younger versions? Is there any benefit?

Do not change anything, leave as is.

I am looking to purchase an ASUS BW-16D1HT as per the list on this thread however I notice some retailers show the drive with an E-Green and MDisc logo on the front while others show the drive without these logos are there 2 versions of this drive? Does it matter?

Thanks, good to know. I've noticed the 2 ASUS drives have different manufacturer numbers one is 90DD0200-B20010, the other is 90DD0200-B28000 are these numbers useful in any way in determining the usefulness for ripping UHD blu-ray disks?
Is there a way to work out the manufacture date/firmware on a drive from its packaging without connecting it to the computer?

Thanks

90DD0200-B28000 are the ones that come boxes up, don't remember what the other one is.
There's a sticker on the drive which will tell you manufacturing date but you don't need it, every drive out there right now will be of year 2019 and later.

Thanks again jon. This is probably my last question for now until I have the drive in my possession -
Besides the ASUS 16D1HT drive, I have found some stock of the LG WH14NS40 is one easier to work with than the other? I know the LG is read and write whereas the ASUS is write only. The Asus costs £13 more but is sold by Amazon so easy returns if there is a problem whereas LG drive is an ebay seller however they have a very good seller score.

This is the LG drive https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182526676581

Just an update on USB enclosures/sata adapters that work with optical drives and flashing, I was able to successfully flash an ASUS BW-16D1HT in a recycled BW-12D1S-U case. Worked great and had no issues. Firmware update show's that it took, if I'm unable to rip an UHD I will repost. Thank you for all of the great information to accomplish this task.
