If you use MakeMKV (not AnyDVD) for your backups, then the WH16NS60 (on firmware 1.00) is the best drive available for the job but not on your list.

If you want to use software other than MakeMKV then the ASUS BW-16D1HT (or PRO as they are the same drive, just different world region).

Personally, I have only ever had 2 out of approx 100 UHD's not read in my BH16NS55 on FW 1.02. Are you cleaning your discs before ripping? Even if they look spotless, most discs still need a clean before ripping.
Cheers :D

I'm looking for an external UHD-friend LibreDrive for my Mac. What's the best one? Preferably one that's already flashed.

I would go with a LG WH14NS40 crossflashed to ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.10, then crossflash with LG WH16NS60 1.00
Best setup for me until now....

I would go with a LG WH14NS40 1.04 crossflashed to ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.10, then crossflash with LG WH16NS60 1.00
Best setup for me until now....
no need for extra steps 1.04 to wh16ns60 1.02 MK i have flashed 100's of these the less flashing the better less chance for user error

When I tried flashing from LG wh14ns40 1.04 to wh16ns60 1.00 I got an error, and that led to the searching and posting of the topic mentioned above. Maybe 1.02 is different.

I chose firmware 1.00 over 1.02 because of comments like the one posted above:

The answer to this question is: ASUS BW16D1HT.

If you don’t want to hassle with doing it yourself and live in Australia contact Marty McNuts. If you’re on the East coast of the USA see Billycar11 and West Coast USA or anywhere else in the WORLD (Europe, Asia, South America, even Africa) then I am your man!

Merry Christmas!!

Hello jonghotti! I have reviewed several posts in this forum recommending the ASUS BW16D1HT after several problems ripping discs with my old BR burner, so I decided to purchase it from newegg today. I was not able to private message you because the site claims I am too newly registered for that feature. But, I was hoping you could walk me thru the entire process to make this work perfectly with MakeMKV as I am fearful to risk bricking it. I am located in Nebraska USA and this is the exact product page I ordered it from. Thanks for your support!

Direct contact information for that forum member can be found within this forum:

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=20

As well as others that provide similar services and fees for their time.

Additionally, there are existing guides for this process. Pay attention to and read the sticky/guide posts across the forum as they often provide answers to common questions like this one. Start here if you'd like to try and do this yourself:

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634

There is a step-by-step video link included in that guide for flashing.
