LG-BH16NS55 flashed to LG-WH16NS60 (f/w 1-00DE) not reading discs

Bought this drive (LG-BH16NS55 Cross Flashed to LG-WH16NS60 on firmware version 1-00DE) a couple of years ago...then haven't really been buying discs.

Decided to buy a couple this weekend (Wonka and Oppenheimer) and fire up the drive which hasn't been used for a while, but it won't read discs. Just spits the tray open. Have tried with CDs, DVDs and UHD discs.

I'm assuming the drive's borked, but does anyone have any pointers?

I was prompted to downloaded the latest version of MakeMKV (1.17.6) but am hoping the drive not working is coincidence.

Found a CD/DVD cleaner...that hadn't changed matters. Have also tried it on a different machine and ditto.

Am assuming the drive is hosed. Time to look at buying a new one I suspect. A little disappointing as it's only been used for maybe a dozen discs.

CDs and DVDs use a different laser than blu-rays and UHDs. If the drive won't read either kind of disc, that seems like a bad sign.

Pioneer drives are held in high regard these days, but unfortunately to get one that is LibreDrive compatible, you need to get one from a seller in your region that can get one with old firmware.

Thanks.

Am going to give another LG a go - couldn't readily see any Pioneers.

Will see how long the new one lasts.

We currently get most of our new content through Disney+ or Prime, but with the way streaming services are going I can see us starting to buy discs again - really don't want to purchase through Prime or Google Play and become beholden to them.
