Just so i don't leave everyone hanging in suspence haha...i actually did not proceed with flashing the unit. Although all indications were that it would work... I decided to return the unit. Maybe if i get larger collection of 4k DVDs i might be back on this road again. Thanks for answering all my questions!!

New user here, I picked up this drive off of Amazon with a Dec 2020 date on the model sticker and found "KlatuVerataNikto"'s post on page 2 here and noticed his unit had a May 2020 build date so I presumed the firmware he used would similarly work on mine but I made a copy of the firmware first before doing so and I'm currently ripping a copy of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to hard-disc (I purchased the movie) solely so I can play it with MPV player+SVP! Thanks to everyone who helped in this thread, I'm certain this thread will continue to help countless others who, like myself, picked up this Asus external drive and realize they cannot read discs with MakeMKV

I couldn't get the drive to flash on my Mac. Admittedly, I'm not great in terminal. Even copying and pasting the commands from the step by step thread did not work for me.
I busted out my old windows laptop running Windows 10. I downloaded and used the flashing tool. The flashing tool would not open unless I ran it as an administrator. The Asus firmware would not flash onto the drive. I ended up using the WH16NS60 1.02 firmware and it worked like a champ. Libre mode is enabled and I'm ripping 4K discs! Also, currently ripping Solo: A Star Wars Story with no problems!
