Asus BC-121STb

Post by monkeystains »

I have been trying to get my drive to do 4k blu rays and have come to an impasse. I have tried to run the custom firmware installers and just get an error "Updating Failure 4." I have tried looking it up and have found nothing. The firmware it is on is 3.11. I have tried using the Asus and LG firmware installer with no avail. Also tried this on multiple computers and even through USB, usually it is connected through SATA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried all in the MK Firmware pack and just get the Updating failure #4. I will try again and see if it will work.

I just installed a WH16NS60 RomVer 1.02 4/24/2019 drive. I ran the ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer_(Modified).exe (8-23-2019) with DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.00.bin (and others) and get a "Updating failure #4"

ASUS-BW-16D1H-U-A204-WM01001-211901041044.bin firmware *does* work (as noted in someone else's post). And from here I flashed to DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.00.bin Do you know why this is occurring? Thanks!

Because newer firmware from drive manufacturers are implementing new protections to prevent direct downgrading in certain cases. It’s been happening to certain people here and there. The steps you just took were a correct workaround to bypass this protection. They really do not want you to have the ability to rip/backup UHD BD discs.

Also, it can sometimes take a few tries to get the firmware to flash. Some people have had to try flashing multiple times using the same firmware version or different firmwares until it takes.
