Trying to flash a BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE BU40N 1.01 drive on OS Ventura?

Post by iiayva? »

I should preface this by saying that I am extremely computer illiterate. I got an Archgon external drive for my regular blurays last year and this year decided to purchase my first 4K bluray.

As you might expect, when I tried to rip it, I got a ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT PRESENT' notification.

I've looked up the excellent drive flashing guide, but as someone who has no knowledge about any of this stuff, it kind of made my head spin.

I did eventually manage to figure out that I probably need the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934 firmware file, but I'm just posting this because I want to double-check before I try anything and accidentally brick my drive.

I suggest flashing your drive with DE_BU40N_1.00 firmware instead as it works with all ripping software. See the guide for instructions viewtopic.php?p=74718#p74718
Cheers :D

Thanks. If I may ask, what are the main differences between that one and the one I listed in my initial post? I couldn't really grasp what they were.

Based off the guide it seemed like that was the correct one, though, of course, I defer to the judgement of the people on here.

Sorry for asking all these (no doubt, obvious) questions, but I just don't want to brick a $100 dollar machine by accident because I don't know much about LibreDrive and Terminal.

the simple answer is ripper compatibility as marty said 1.00 works on more

Thank you so much, I've now located the DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.00_MK_HBD file (which I assume is the correct one).

I guess I must have read the guide wrong because I thought that other piece of firmware was what a MD-8107S-U3-UHD drive needed.

Thanks again.

bu40n 1.00 not bp60
the guide bu40n 1.03 works too marty was just giving you bonus info since you have older fw you could go direct to bu40n 1.00 to have wider compatibility bp60 does not have wide ripper compatibility.

Ah, thanks. I think I misunderstood. You meant the one in the Downgrade Enabled Firmware V.2.zip google drive folder?

Sorry for asking what I'm sure must be an obvious question, but does the information in the guide provided in the Mac commands to flash section, still apply for this (I'm assuming since the date doesn't list 2020) unencrypted firmware?

Thanks, though I'm a bit confused about the video linked below the Mac section as it seems to be for PCs.

I only ask because I have no idea how to use Terminal so I don't want to fiddle around without seeing someone else visually demonstrate what to do.

Is there a video for Macintosh computers that I am not seeing?
