iso-to-mkv alternative

Post by raskells »

i am curious if there exists alternative possibilities to remux a dvd.iso -> mainmovie.mkv under linux other than makemkv, even at the cost of comfort?

There are a few. DVD encryption is "mostly widely known", and a number of programs can read the VOBs and mux them into other formats. Even VLC can do that.

hi woodstock,

thanks for your input so far.

just to make sure i got that right: so even vlc is really capable of remuxing iso files directly to complete mainmovie.mkvs?

It is more a case of being able to "play" the DVD ISO, and having VLC "record" the main feature to an MKV file as you play it. It's not particularly convenient, at least not compared to using MakeMKV.

you mean realtime recording?

i found a suitable way in dvdbackup and avidemux, but this is for remuxing a vob main feature only. also, the resulting mkv is not on par with the ones created by makemkv (lacking text streams, differing kb/s values for the video stream?).

any further non-gui alternatives for iso-to-main-feature.mkv, as i am not afraid of the terminal ;)
