HD-DVD Support for X-Box 360 HD-DVD on a Mac

Hello,

I'm using a "HD-DVD-ROM Toshiba DVD/HD X807616 MC08" and I'm unable to get the program to convert any HD-DVD disc I try. I'm able to read any Blu-ray using my other reader but this one fails whenever I select audio and closes the program.

First a few facts for you

1. This drive works fine on my X-Box 360, so it's not the drive
2. I have 90 different HD-DVDs and it fails on all 30+ I've attempted.
3. I'm Running Mac OS 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro
4. I'm currently running the 1.7.2 Beta and previously this failed with the 1.7.1
5. All my Blu-rays copy fine with my blu-ray drive
5. Is there any other program that would be helpful?

Every thread I read on here has someone chiming in about Blu-ray support. Please don't do that here, this is HD-DVD ONLY!!

Before I purchase this product, I have to know if it's going to work for my purposes.

Is this a new issue that an older version might work better with? I've heard rumors that things went south with 1.7, but I can't install earlier versions without a license key.

MakeMKV's HD-DVD support is not as robust as it's DVD/Blu-ray support to the point were it doesn't really work at all in my experience. You could email the logs to support@makemkv.com and see if mike can address it in the long run.

You can have the same output from MakeMKV with HD-DVD via manual tools* but the software needed doesn't exist on OSX only on Windows.

1.7.1 seems to have completely broken HD-DVD ripping. I went back to 1.7.0 to rip some the other day.

Thank you much. I went back to 1.7.0 and all the HD-DVDs I tried have worked so far. This really needs to be documented. 1.7.1 & 1.7.2 don't work at all for any HD-DVDs.

I've raised it with Mike. Hopefully it gets fixed in 1.7.3. 1.7.2 was really only an AACS update of 1.7.1 which is the release which broke it, so keeping my fingers crossed.

Same here - 1.7.2 crashes on HD DVD but sadly 1.7.0 refuses to work as of today (beta too old)!

So it seems that as of today no HD DVD is possible until it gets fixed?

Please help!

Any beta 1.7.3 in sight? Nightly builds?

HD-DVD is unfortunately broken in 1.7.1 and 1.7.2 . You should be able to run 1.7.0 with current beta key without any problems.
