Has Yosemite 10.10.2 broken MakeMKV?

After updating OSX Yosemite to 10.10.2, Make MKV no longer works, even on blu-ray discs I've ripped previously.

I Get the error messages:

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:UNRECOVERED READ ERROR' occurred while issuing SCSI command AD010..080002400 to device 'IoKit:IOBDServices:3ce0a4bc97db5fe4:TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506BB TS00'

It's a Samsung BD-R/RE drive.

Does Make MKV need to be updated to cope with 10.10.2?

It looks like Yosemite is taking over control of the BD AACS key exchange, preventing MakeMKV from doing it. Each version of OSX gets more particular than the previous about what programs are allowed to access "super user" mode.

Unless you're still running an old version of MakeMKV that doesn't include support for AACSv47... 1.8.11 was the first to support v47, but there have been 5 versions released since that, with 1.9.1 supporting AACSv51.

Sure looks like this could be a Yosemite problem. I have been running 10.10.2 and now 10.10.3. Ever since I stepped up to 10.10.2, my External Samsung SE-506 simply will not load up any BR disc under MakeMKV 1.91, including those I have successfully ripped under previous versions of OS X, with this same iMac and external drive combo [plugged directly into iMac, no hub]. After spinning for several seconds, blue light flashing, it all craps out with this message:

Code: Select all

Drive Information

Product: BDDVDW SE-506CB
Revision: TS00
Serial number: S1666YMF50009F

No disc inserted
Here is the debug log.txt today from a disc I successfully ripped last month:

Can you please share the log file from a "no disc inserted" session? Any errors there?

I tried but got this error message:

"Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached." So, here is the excerpt, apparently with no errors:

Has anyone solved this?

I'm running OS X 10.10.2 and I have lost the ability to rip DVD's and Blu-Ray's. When I insert a disk the external drive spins the disk and then after a minute or two ejects the disk.

This is the drive I hails as:

HL-DT-ST BD-RE BE14NU40:

Firmware Revision: 1.00
Interconnect: USB
Burn Support: Yes (Generic Drive Support)
Profile Path: None
Cache: 4064 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RAM, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
BD-Write: -R, -RE
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose File > Refresh Information

This is the contents of the Debug Log:

Debug log started at Wed Mar 4 23:26:55 2015 , written by MakeMKV v1.9.1 darwin(x86-release)
Using 524544KB for read cache.

Application exited at Thu Mar 5 13:24:14 2015

I read more posts here and tried to rip using the command line and got the following:

tests-MacBook-Pro:~ onefastskater$ cd /Applications/MakeMKV.app//Contents/MacOS/
tests-MacBook-Pro:MacOS onefastskater$ ./makemkvcon info disc:1
MakeMKV v1.9.1 darwin(x86-release) started

I'm running into the same issue. I have a Buffalo brxl-pc6u2, and it worked great since I got it in the fall, then I wasn't really using it for a few months, then picked up the Star Trek: TNG BDs and they won't even load. Any CD or DVD loads without issue. Any idea what can be done?

Describe "won't even load" better - OS X says no disk, or what?

Behavior seen:

1. MKV not running - place a DVD in the drive.
2. Expect Apple DVD player to complain that this is not an apple disk drive. This does not happen. Drive attempts to access the disk and finally ejects if.
3. MKV running - place a disk in the drive (DVD or BluRay).
4. Drive attempts to access disk for about 30-45 seconds and eventually ejects the disk.

As I have posted no debug information in the makemkv log.

The console information I posted was the result of these two attempts.

Tried a few more things to debug ...

1. Used VMware fusion to boot up windows and still unable to read/burn disks.
2. Connected the HL-DT-ST BD-RE BE14NU40 to an older MacBook running OS x 10.8. Still unable to read/burn drives.

I'm leaning to the firmware or a drive failure at the moment. LG site only has PC .exe firmware up grader. No support for OS X, device drivers and/or firmware.

Apple explicitly does not support BluRay.

Not sure what to try next. I don't have any PC's lying around.

Would be nice to hear something substantive from the team here. I am a paid user, and right now, my only solution is to resort to my Baetis server to back up my disks. That is tolerable, but not optimal, for this user.

Carbon Core Deprecations

Carbon Core, a subframework of the Core Services umbrella framework, contains the programming interfaces of many legacy Carbon managers, in addition to various utilities. In OS X v10.8, most of these interfaces are deprecated.

If your app uses APIs in the Carbon Core framework, it’s recommended that you investigate ways to update your code. This document lists the Carbon Core header files that are deprecated in OS X v10.8 and summarizes some of the alternative APIs you can use.

Note: If you use QuickTime in your app you should investigate transitioning to APIs in the AV Foundation, Core Media, and Video Toolbox frameworks instead. If you must use QuickTime APIs, you might have to continue using some of the Carbon managers, such as Component Manager and Alias Manager, and some of the data types and error codes defined in deprecated header files, such as MacErrors.h and MacMemory.h.

Updated to Yosemite, myself, this past weekend and I'm NOT experiencing this issue.
