Media Player for file

Post by mlongmanera »

Can someone tell me how to play the movie I put on a flash drive? I cannot get it to play on VLC Media Player or any other player! Says unsupported format!

More information needed - I play MKV files from flash drives regularly with VLC.

Source of file? File type? Flash drive formatted as FAT32, ExFAT, NTFS, other?

Formatted exFat. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling VLC. Still won't work. Do I have to change the format of the file?

What type of movie file do you have? Is it a .mkv? A .mp4? Something else?

ExFAT should not have limitations that would break the file. FAT32 only works when the files are 4GB or smaller, and writing a bigger file to it will make it unplayable.

The assumption is that you are talking about an MKV file created by MakeMKV, since you're asking here. And I also assume that you created it with a .MKV file extension, so that VLC doesn't get confused about what the file type is.

VLC should have no issue with MKV files, assuming that you are not trying to, say, play a VC-1 video with VLC 1.x or older (that wouldn't work). VLC 3.x should be able to handle just about anything found on a Bluray disk, including h.265 UHD video, and DTS-HD MA audio.

Unless it isn't really an MKV file...
