size is reduced after ripping

Hello,

I've tried ripping a DVD using makemkv. If I open the dvd directory from the file explorer, the video files sum up to 7.55 gb. When I rip the whole thing with makemkv, however, the total size is 7.1 gb. The same thing happens with other DVDs I've tried. Is this normal? What explains the large difference in size?

Simple answer: Overhead in the DVD disk structure.
