Okay I have a scary puzzle. I just used Process Monitor wi/PowerDVD on the Amazon retail version, and it gave me 541 mpls -- which doesn't exist in MakeMKV's list! It goes from 538 to 542.

I looked in the PLAYLIST folders on the disc itself and there actually WAS a 541 mpls. Why didn't MakeMKV show it in the list? Is this some sort of bug, possibly?

EDIT: I found the problem -- in MakeMKV messages pane after the disc was loaded I discovered the following:
Title 00541.mpls is equal to title 00244.mpls and was skipped
Something to look out for. Anyway, the segment map for Amazon retail (244 mpls) is:
504 511 514 509 506 510 515 507 501 508 512 505 503 513 502

I put all the files in order, converted with Wondershare Video Converter to MKV, H264, 1920x1080, 30 fps, 6000 kbps, Profile Auto, Level Auto, Encoder Ac-3, 6 Channel Audio, 48000 Hz sample rate, 256K bit rate.

The audio is off by a second or two. Anyone know what is causing this?

I had an issue trying to rip a bluray retail copy (UK) of this movie purchased from amazon. Initially I didn't have Java installed and I just picked the first (of literally hundreds) of what appeared to be the main movie. It was clear after watching the first 15-20 minutes that it was a bit jumbled up.

I tried the Process Monitor / PowerDVD recommendation however it report 000389.mpls which I couldn't find in the list of titles presented by makemkv.

I then installed Java and ran makemkv again, this time it still came up with lots (hundreds?) of main movie titles however one was suffixed with "main feature" so I chose that one and ripped it. When comparing side by side for the first 30 minutes with the original bluray (ie playing one on a bluray player and having plex stream the mkv) everything appeared to be in sync. I'll report back later what the mpls number it was, i believe it was nine hundred something.

PITA really

Good catch, I wondered why I couldn't see 389 in the mkv titles when process monitor had captured that file name, and then I saw this in the mkv logs

Code: Select all

Title 00389.mpls is equal to title 00244.mpls and was skipped
so for 244.mpls I got the below segment map which matches yours..

Title information
Name: Deepwater Horizon-
Source file name: 00244.mpls
Duration: 1:47:17
Chapters count: 16
Size: 25.9 GB
Segment count: 15
Segment map: 504,511,514,509,506,510,515,507,501,508,512,505,503,513,502
File name: Deepwater_Horizon-_t115.mkv

interestingly the title "(FPL_MainFeature)" which is 00981.mpls appeared to be correct (for the first 30 mins or so)...

This looks almost identical for what was mentioned earlier to use for the U.S. retail version. The only difference i see is the file name. The one mentioned was File name: Deepwater_Horizon-_t52.mkv. If i look for that file name the segment map is different. Is the file name something i have to watch out for or just the segment map order? The information below is what showed up for me.

Title information
Name: Deepwater Horizon-
Source file name: 00301.mpls
Duration: 1:47:17
Chapters count: 16
Size: 25.9 GB
Segment count: 15
Segment map: 504,514,509,511,506,515,510,507,501,505,508,512,503,513,502
File name: Deepwater Horizon-_t106.mkv

The Source file name (.mpls) is what you want to match.

The Title (txxx) will vary since we could all have a different setting for the "Minimum Title Length (seconds) in Preferences.
If I have mine set at zero and yours is set at 1800, our Title numbers will not match.

I know this is a bit old, but figured I'm new to trying to sort all of this ripping out... especially the playlist obfuscation stuff! :)

Deepwater Horizon's correct Blu-ray mpls is 301.

That was found by AnyDVD (see attached). The Process Monitor method seems like it sort of got it, but there were so many results that popped in right as the main film starts to play that doing Process Monitor method alone wasn't a clear-cut answer for me (see attached) - there were over 17k results. MakeMKV using JAVA actually gave me the wrong mpls (see attached) as it identified mpls 794. And as we all know forums are good, but sometimes these things differ from disc to disc, and person to person so I like to have at least double confirmation of the correct playlist.

So I ripped both 301 and 794. I played both rips in separate VLC windows and at about 27min. they differed. I then played the disc from PowerDVD in one window and the 301 rip in another window within VLC - worked! Click thru chapter by chapter and it's all sync'd up. This is also my method for playlist obfuscation discs (thanks Lionsgate!) - play the rip and the disc itself and step through the chapters to verify (much quicker than watching both movies in real-time) :P

Hope this helps someone else out there!
