Re-doing a disc: 1 title failed, but it worked previously

Post by Jack the DB Ripper »

Question: Why would a title fail to write when it had previously worked?

I am re-ripping the blu-ray of 2010: The Year We Make Contact, which I had previously ripped earlier this year (in March).

When I rip discs, I often include the special features, not just the main feature.

This disc has 2 special features - a making-of and theatrical trailer - which are titles 09 and 13.

When I ripped the disc in March, all titles wrote normally. This time around, title 13 (theatrical trailer) is failing.

Any idea why this would happen? I mean in general, I'm not asking because I really care about this particular instance. I've had one or two other discs have titles fail before (rarely), but this is the only time I've had a failure on a title that ripped correctly previously. Just wondering what the cause is so I know if the same thing happens again some time.

Thanks

Without seeing the errors, guesses are all we can offer.

Other than, "Are you running version 1.12.3?"

If so, you might want to read this: https://makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17872

There are reasons (if you're ripping UHD disks) to run 1.12.3, and reasons to run 1.12.2, and you can do it a the same time, as long as they're installed in different directories. I have .3 listed as "MakeMKVuhd" for now, until Mike issues a newer version.

OK I reinstalled the previous version on another drive and the title wrote normally.

Damn, now I'm paranoid that there could be problems with some of the other 40 discs I've done in the past few months. I noticed some weird things happening with at least a couple of them...
