The VAM file is the Director's Cut, while the regular one is the theatrical release, but there are 2 VAMs and 2 regular ones. Does anyone know which file is correct?

The listed stream elements are the same, so the video stream is identical. The MPLS difference is in the included audio and/or subtitles.

Thank you. Pardon my ignorance, but just to be clear, "listed stream elements" = "segment map"? Is that correct? If so, why would they bother having it on there twice? Just curious.

Also, I noticed only one difference between 00003.mps and 00654.mpls. The former ends with 408 while the latter ends with 409. Other than that, they're the same. Does that mean anything?

The MPLS can have different stream elements and/or can select different parts (audio and/or subtitle tracks) of the streams (M2TS files). You must expand the titles to see what tracks are included in MPLS 0001 and 0002

Yes sorry, I overlooked the 408 versus 409. To find out what stream part is in 408 and 409 you can rip both titles to an MKV file or you make an decrypted backup with MakeMKV. After this go onto the backup folder -> BDMV -> STREAMS and view with VLC the 00408.M2TS and 00409.MTS stream files. After this you can decide which one is the correct one and you know the MPLS for ripping. The creation of the MKV file can be done from the backup by opening the INDEX.BDMV file with MakeMKV, so it is very fast way to create the MKV file. But maybe the expanding of the title section in MakeMKV give you already the right hint (compare the audio and sbtitle tracks).

Just checked the Netflix disc and 409 is the end credits with a female voice reading them to you. 408 was just the normal credits.

Cool, so if I'm understanding all of this correctly, if I want to back up the regular version, it doesn't matter whether I use 00001.mpls or 00002.mpls. And if I want to back up the Director's Cut, I should use 00003.mpls. Is that correct?

I was unaware you could re-open decrypted backups within MakeMKV this would've saved tons of time when ripping multiple 20-40GB MKV's to figure out which is the one we would like to save. Thank you for this information.

Also, on the Netflix disc, 00002.mpls ends with 409 and not 408 like on your list.

I posted the below in the UHD section of the boards. I figured this would help folks out here as well. Cheers.

I have a hunch as to what the difference is... I have only confirmed this with the regular blu-ray. I will run the same test tomorrow on my UHD disc. I only had time to check the BRs tonight.

There is only one difference in the segment maps for the BR that I bought (Amazon US), and that is 0408.m2ts and 0409.m2ts. When looking at those files, it is the end credits.

I compared them side by side and it looks like 0408.m2ts is the "full credits," in that in includes the actors names displayed on screen in the first minute. Here are some screenshots to illustrate my point. Taken from 0408.m2ts:

Here are screenshots of the same-ish timestamps from 0409.m2ts:

This is most likely triggered when the BR is set to a visually impaired mode with descriptive audio. Just a guess.

Thanks! I just scanned my files and see the same difference in the credits, one with the comic-book actor names and one without.

My 4k blu ray has a 249 and a 250 - any guesses which one is right?

For historical reference, the first one (249), has the end credits with the names.

For the UHD version (ISBN: 043396538887), as jayper has highlighted here:

Credits with Actors' Titles

Code: Select all

Source file name: 00249.mpls
Segment map: 1,340
Credits without Actors' Titles

Code: Select all

Source file name: 00250.mpls
Segment map: 1,341
