Smallville Season 7 Disc 3

Post by rmoody »

I am getting the following error log from the 3rd disc in the Smallville Season 7 set on the last two titles. Is this a bad disc or something else? I am in the process of contacting Warner to see about a replacement disc, not holding my breath however. Thanks for helping.

I tried DVDFab *ducks for cover* and it was able to rip the two episodes to m2ts files that play OK. The disc seems to play OK on my PS3 as well. I am attaching the CPLI files and sending them to the support email also.

Looks like a badly mastered disc. Could you make a disc backup and see if any hashcheck errors show up.

I know this is an old post from a year ago but I ran into the exact same issue today and figured instead of a new post I'd respond to this one, using anyDVD to remove protections I was able to use tsmuxer and then mkvmerge gui to demux the two problem episodes and make mkv's out of them, end result was just like makeMKV output only missing chapters. I'll try to run a disc backup and see if any hashcheck errors occur to confirm your suspicion about the disc. The backup finished without any errors reported. Is there anything else I can do to help figure out if it's an issue with makeMKV or just a badly authored disc that will never really work right?

Thanks in advance

I just purchased this Season of Smallville, (on Blu-ray) and am having the exact same problem with the last two episodes on this disk, has there been any new solutions on resolving this issue?

When I contacted WB for disk replacements, they didn't even question me with sending replacements, there on there way, (as I type this) but is would seem that even when those disk come, I'm going to see the same issue, what do you think Mike?

I'm using MakeMKV v1.7.4 [darwin(x86-release)], (Licensed type: Registered : Expires: Never)

Here's the log:

It's nice to hear WB have good customer service.

Anyway, do this and send all the stuff to Mike:
MakeMKV FAQ - Program fails to open a disc or crashes, what should I do?

When you send the email it might be worth adding a link to this thread so he can read over it as well.

Thanks Crofax

I just reported this to Mike as you indicated.

Hope there's a fix for this soon.

REPORT TO MIKE, (via email) THE FOLLOWING:

Hi Mike

My login name is kfreeb on the MKV discussion group.

I'm a registered user, using MKV ver. 1.7.4

I'm having problems with the Smallville, Season 7, Disk three, last two episodes on the third, (last disk) Blu-ray disk for this season, (USA release ISBN 1-4198-7458-6 / Barcode 8392902518)

Here's the Debug Log as well as the clpi & mpls files from the Blu-ray directory.

(MKV Log - BD files Archive.zip)

Here is a link to the Forum Discussion on this subject on MKV's Forum: Smallville Season 7 Disc 3

(Smallville Season 7 Disc 3)

I purchased these disk about two weeks ago from the WB Shop, (online.) There are three Blu-ray disks for season 7.

It would seem that this is not isolated issue with a few bad disk, but rather a possible problem with the third disk, for all copies of third disk, for this particular series, in season 7. I should say that this disk, (all episodes) plays fine in a set top blu-ray player, (including the problem tracks.) There are no imperfections in the surface of the disk.

All of the episodes on disk three, (there are 6 episodes.) The first four titles extracted with no problem, the last two episodes on disk three, (Titles: 04 & 05) would not get pass "Analyzing seamless segments", (this was showing above the top progress bar) it would just stop, saying that it failed to save these 2 titles.

There is also a track that combines all of the episodes for disk three, into one 30GB track (contain all 6 episodes) this is in addition to the separate six files/tracks for each episode. The Debug log will show this as the last track to be extracted, after the first two tracks, (Titles 04 & 05) during the same extraction session. This 30GB track does get pass the "Analyzing seamless segments" and does begin to extract the largest track on the disk. It gets to about were the last two episodes should be on the progress bar and then fails to save this track as well.

It seems that this disk was manufactured differently, (some how) plays fine in a set top player, (all six tracks) but can't be extracted with MakeMKV.

I believe that this was first reported in the Forum back in July of 2010.

Quick question.

Has anyone successfully ripped the last two episodes of disk 3, (for Smallville, Season 7) if so please respond.

I apologize for the long silence on this topic. From the log files, it looks like there is a mastering error on these titles. To see if workaround is possible, I have to ask for test dumps. Please make and submit a test dump per instructions at http://www.makemkv.com/onlinehelp/testdump.html for all titles(episodes) that fail.

Hi Mike

Just so you know, the replacement disk I received from WB also has the exact same issue as the ones above. I now have two copies of Smallville Season 7, where the last two episodes are not accessible.

Mike:
As you can see from the attempts above & below, I have tried to create a TEST DUMP file of this problem disk, but even the TEST DUMP will not get past: "Analyzing seamless segments" on titles 04 & 05. So I had another idea, there is a title set that contains all of the episodes, and so I have done a test dump of that title set, (title 07, 30GB in size) which also contains the problem tracks and which also will not complete saving under normal ripping.

The reason I tried this title set, was that it does get passed the "Analyzing seamless segments" due to all title sets contain in it, (at the beginning of this massive title set.) Well the track did save out a TEST DUMP file. There are 6 title sets in this large title set and the last two are the problem title's, (anyway) I will upload this TEST DUMP and send the link to support for download.

Maybe now there is a possibility of solving this issue with Smallville, Season Seven, Disk 3.
