Main Feature identification failing more often?

Post by Fortissimo »

Is it just me, or is the Java identification of a blu-ray's main feature failing more often than before? Just recently, I ripped Jexi (2019) and Anna (2019), and both of them were incorrectly identified by MakeMKV. I'd almost prefer MakeMKV didn't even try to ever "guess" at the main feature - it seems those encoding the Blu-Rays know really well how to trick MakeMKV. I wish MakeMKV would put the word "GUESS" in the track list when it's merely guessing at the correct track, as opposed to when MakeMKV absolutely knows the correct playlist.

Additionally, I'm finding that requests to find out the correct playlist (among obfuscated playlists) often go unresolved today in this forum, unlike 2 or 3 years ago. Again, is that just me, or has anyone else noticed the same thing?

Can’t say I’ve had that issue with discs but I’m sure I buy less than some and it would come down to which discs one purchases, whether you run into any issues. I’m not clear on the status of this feature - I sent in a disc semi-recently (as per https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14330) but never saw a reply on it - but I do like the discs where identification information about the titles (including the special features) is I guess accessed from Java and then displayed by MakeMKV.

As far as the forum goes it would come down to people being active and having the same discs. I’ve been fairly inactive for a while and I’m sure others have periods of being active or inactive. I posted the same one I sent in but it hasn’t been answered... when I have the chance I’ll work it out myself and come back and post the information in case anyone else runs across it in the future.

When a guess is wrong 10%, 5%, or even 1% of the time, then unfortunately this means the guess is unusable. There might as well be no guess, because who wants to rip a movie and then find out later it's a bad rip?

If it were simply labeled "GUESS" when it's not known with 100% certainty, this would make the feature usable. But right now, even when it's 100% certain, I have to treat it like it's only 90% certain, which means I pretty much have to ignore all guesses whether they're certain or not and just research every obfuscated title manually, the same way I'd have to do if there were no Java identification in MakeMKV at all. This makes MainFeature identification feature completely useless, for me anyway.

You could give GetMPLS a try. It may help or at least let you know which m2ts files to check. See the first post of thread https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 12&t=21777
Cheers :D
