Cannot Rip ANY Disney Blu-ray Disc

Post by moritasan2040 »

Hello. I can use MakeMKV to make back-ups of all my DVDs and BDs from all regions and companies except...any BDs by Disney. I've looked into other posts of similar problems on here, but their problems seemed a bit different. For all my Disney BDs, title_t00.mkv is always ripped improperly, while all the others work fine. I've tried Hercules, The Lion King, and Aladdin. For the first two, it's a problem cuz that file is the movie itself, but luckily that wasn't the case for Hercules. My drive is a brand-new Pioneer BD-RW BDR-212M. It's wonderful, and rips all the discs I had trouble with before (except for these three). And yet...

From the log, you can see that MakeMKV encountered read errors on that disc.

In addition to the link given in the log file for read errors, this sticky thread also addresses your question:

Is this a log from processing a backup already on your hard drive, or from a direct read of the BD? The lack of an AACS directory would indicate an unencrypted backup.

If from the BD, what type drive (that's missing from the log) ?

Read errors from your hard drive are a different sort of problem than from the optical drive.

I read that thread, but the specific errors, "Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:UNRECOVERED READ ERROR" and "OS error - STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR", I couldn't find information about in that thread.

I did, however, read MakeMKV.com's Error Classification page, but it just says it's either a damaged disc or a damaged drive, but like I said, I went and bought a brand-new drive solely becuz they wouldn't rip, and they were all brand-new sealed discs. And the fact that it's all three, not just one disc, and that it's only the ones by Disney, is a bit weird.

I'm doing a direct read of the BD. It's a brand-new Pioneer BD-RW BDR-212M.

Yeah, it is a bit weird. Never had any problems with Disney myself.

I've had the SAME issue. I can't seem to get any Disney Blu-ray to rip. Disks are cleaned and they play just fine. Frustrated to not find any answers.

Have you tried using another drive? Maybe an LG or an ASUS instead of a Pioneer?

Hi, Did anyone manage to rip Aladdin 2019 successfully without glitches? I am in the process of buying a drive to rip a Blu-ray disc of Aladdin to use for an event, but it will be timecoded with lighting, so the Reaper DAW needs to be able to play it.
If a quality UHD movie cannot be achieved I have to look at alternative options.
I only plan to rip that movie and later on, one other: The Greatest Showman, so don't want to fork out money for something I will use rarely.
A friend of mine obtained the movie from a download but we now find it has several milky white glitches for a few seconds, which spoils the movie, so the next step is to see if I can make a decent job of it.
Any help, pointers, guidance, tips would be appreciated. Thanks
