I think the issue here isn't what the problem is. Its not working. New AACS versions are out MKV programming hasnt caught up. Ok np just wait for a newer version.
In the mean time what is it I need to do to make AACS 46 and lower work because I have the most recent version 1.8.11. But all my Rays do this now. I've read some older post from a few years back and there was the same type of errors and it sounded like the drive is the issue it has flashed for updates to read the newest AACS protections and now it will not allow any B Ray to be converted. Can someone give some instruction on how to convert my drive back so I can still use this program while I wait for updates. All I can seem to do is roll back firmware which has had no effect. Minus plugging in a new drive what are my options?

I've personally tested 1.8.9 with AACS v47, and it worked. The disk it was on isn't officially going to be released for another 10 days (yes, it IS a legal copy, I just have a supplier that sends sends my orders when things come in, rather than "when it is released").
Guess I should rip that title with 1.8.11 to see if there is a problem with the newer version...
If you have tried to rip a disk with a version of AACS that revokes the key MakeMKV is using, that drive will refuse to rip BDs until there is an update, but v46 is "known good" since 1.8.7.
But there can be problems with reading the disk that can make the key exchange fail, even without a revoked key... This is where DEBUGGING INFORMATION is handy.
Edited to add: 1.8.11 lists AACS v47 as supported. It did not complain with the v47 disk I have here, just reported the version and gave no errors ripping it. But, it also worked with 1.8.9, so v47 doesn't seem to be a very big deal.

Both me and cmbailey4365 have been able to use our drives on Windows and they work, it's on Linux they aren't working therefore suggesting its something either a)incompatible on our linux boxes (i've tried two machines, so perhaps less likely), or b) a component that makemkv uses to talk to the drive that isn't doing what makemkv is expecting it to do.

Woodstock, the highgest AACS version that my drive has been exposed to is version 43, so do not think that is the issue.

Im posting a copy of the fail log the current disk is V9 (Tropic Thunder)and at the bottom u can see V46 (Pompii) which is the disk I was attempting to convert when my problems started. I am using Windows and always have so. I have tried older versions like 1.8.7 and several others but i get the same issies. I assume my only fix is to buy another drive this dosn't really feel like plauseable solution.

I would like to give an update on this and explain how I fixed this see maybe if this help u.
I finally came to the realisation that MakeMKV is really not updateing when it says it is. After you run updates and reopen what does it say at the bottom when u open is it an older version. I assumed that after u hit the button to run program and it uninstalls the previous version that it indeed was updating. I rarely shut my pc down so I just assumed it was. i finally got the update to take by shutting down makemkv durning the download not opening from the install screen and hard booting. and now I am back in business. Basic stuff I know but it worked in this case.

Leonoportman, unfortunately, I am already using the latest version of MakeMKV (version 1.8.11). Although we received similar error messages, it appears that your error messages were caused by using an older version of MakeMKV that was not capable of decrypting the highest AACS version of any disc inserted in your drive (i. e., version 46). My, and apparently others', problem is not with old versions of MakeMKV not supporting newer versions of AACS.

I'm having this exact problem with Ubuntu Server 14.04, MakeMKV 1.8.11 on an external "PLEXTOR BD-ROM PX-B120U" while ripping a DVD, so it's probably not AACS-related. I also noticed that it's only a problem with the backup function. The command seems to work just as expected. With I'm getting the same error (multiple times):

I would add to this thread, that I saw this key exchange failure as well ripping two out of six 3D BD disks (BTW - I'm on version 1.90). One disc was Hugo, the 3D disc (I forget the other one - Spider-Man 3D, I think). After all of the lines of failure code, the last line on the Hugo disk said successfully opened so I ripped the disc. I haven't watched it yet all the way through so it could have a problem but it did start/play normally in my quick test.
But...
The other disk with the failed exchange keys would not open ("Failed to open disc" message), however I also have ANYDVD HD, so I left it running and restarted makeMKV and this time I got no error messages and the disk ripped to mkv successfully. So until this problem is fixed, you could try to run ANYDVD HD (if you have it) along with makeMKV on the problem disks.

I'm not a 100% percent sure what you're looking for so I attached the complete output. The PC is a Lenovo IdeaCentre D400 - one of the devices is some kind of recovery flash drive. Just in case you're wondering. When it was still running Windows Home Server 2011 it ran MakeMKV perfectly - exact same hardware.

After trying to rip a blu-ray my drive suddenly won't recognize any disc, even the ones I've previously ripped. I've spent the last week looking for answers on the web and have been fruitless in that regards. I am using an external usb drive, but power is not an issue. I've even tried a different (but same model) usb blu-ray drive (samsung SE 506), but still get the same debug code:

Did you recently read in a disk that MakeMKV said had a newer version of AACS protection than it could handle?
One of the things about AACS is that it is enforced at the drive level. Once you load in a disk that lists the software key in use as "revoked", the drive will now refuse to load ANY Bluray, as long as you use that same key.
What does MakeMKV show as the "Highest AACS version:" when you start it up?
In your MakeMKV data directory (found in Preferences->General), what file names are present that start with "MKB_v"?
