I/O Error while using MakeMKV

Post by cwapperson »

Morning all,
I would like to ask you folks what to make of the error that I am receiving in MakeMkv. I recently purchased the software, because it worked like a champ during the trial phase, and I have a fairly large dvd / blu-ray collection that I was able to create using this software. So Kudos the the creators!

The following error has occurred almost every time in the last few weeks. I did not have trouble with this error in the beginning, but I was able to finish my collection back in March, but I started up again as I collected a few more movies, in May. Again this error has not occurred till recently, but I have a suspicion that the internal blu-ray drive is dying, and or dead. I can play dvd's okay, but I don't have the software to play blu-ray's so that playback isn't tested. But my drive becomes unusable once this error occurs, and I must restart in order for any program to recognize the disk. Any thoughts? Again, since this is a I/O error from the device, the most likely culprit is the device....

Title #00028.m2ts has length of 61 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 120 seconds and was therefore skipped
Title #00029.m2ts has length of 61 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 120 seconds and was therefore skipped

My drive is a LG blu-ray internal, and I am using MakeMkv. (this also crashes in dvd-fab, although that program is goofy anyways).
It is worth noting that I am on the the 2nd LG blu-ray drive. The first one worked for a couple of disks then outright died, RMA'd to Newegg. This one seems to be going the same way.

Thanks for your help. And if there is another post answering this question please direct me there, preferably without flak. :) Just had a baby, so I haven't had much time to search and dig the forums.

Your drive is having a problem reading part of the disk. MakeMKV will ask it multiple times to try (default is 5, but you can set it higher), but it wasn't helping.

Cleaning the disk is your first option in this case.

Actually, I returned the disk and got a new one - same error, same place on the disk. Seems to be copy protection.

I had the same issues with my copy of 'Cosmos - A Spacetime Odyssey' with my LG drive.

Updating the drive's firmware solved the problems for me :D

That's great news. However, LG doesn't support Mac, so now I have to find someone with a Windows computer (!!!!! --- who has those any more around here?! I'll have to drop into my outdated mail support center who still has some of those around).
