Any suggestions?

Were there errors during the scan phase, or just when you selected Save?

I think it was when it was saving.

I would hit the button to start the scan, which it would do and then those errors arose at the end.
I tried AnyDVD HD as well and had a read error.

There are 2 movie tracks and I have it for each of them.

I cannot see anything other than a very light scratch at the outer edge of the disc (circumferential not radial).

Bluray, more so than DVD, is sensitive to ANYTHING on the surface. But, the error for a dirty disk usually says it's unreadable, not "illegal". Where that can come up is if there was an error reading the directory information, where there is a problem reading the information needed for telling the drive it's OK to decrypt things.

Make sure you have debug logging turned on, and re-try the rip. That will give more information.

Your drive says it can't read parts of the disk. What happens if you clean the disk?

The disk is clean. I will try to watch it with my normal Blu-Ray player in the next days, to see if there is really something wrong. I had other Blu-Rays with fingerprints on it and a few scratches, that doesn't make any problems. Strange.

I tried it on a normal Sony Blu-Ray player and there are no problems.
Only with my external Pioneer BDR-XD05 attached to my Mac I have these problems.
Now I am trying a complete Backup.

I had this same problem. I un-installed and re-installed the MakeMKV program and now it works.
