Home Video Quality Loss?

Post by Raymonddeniet »

Hi,

I am new to this forum and this piece of software.

With my Sony Handycam (Tapes) I have made dvd files (Video_TS and Adio_TS).
When I convert with MakeMKV, will there be any loss of quality?

What I have is not all the best, but when I convert I hope it will not get any worse.
Is it a 1:1 conversion?

I hope you can inform me about this?

MakeMKV simply repackages what is there - the contents are unchanged (other than decrypting if encrypted), by default.

There are some audio formats that CAN be changed, but that is optional.

I tried to convert my home video's to mkv.
The first 2 discs worked.

But when I tried the 3rd, 4th or 15th for that matter I got a kind of error.

It asks for a disk. The first 2 times it didn't.

See enclosed file.

Does anybody know this issue?

Check the link in my signature for how to turn on debugging; it will give a lot more information about why something failed.

Wild guess - the disk has a defect in it that caused the system to give up trying to decode it. Cleaning helps a lot with "well used" disks, when the family isn't too particular about what they scrape the disk over when they're loading/unloading the player. That's WHY I put things on the media server, so I don't have to fight about it! ;)

FYI, there's no need for posting a screenshot (better use png next time), you can copy and paste all text from the log window pane.
