Toy Story of Terror

Post by Stryker412 »

Just picked up TSoT today. I can't seem to locate the 3 shorts that are included. Anyone have an idea?

I'm piggy backing off an old thread, but I'm having problems ripping this disc. There are several tracks of the movie on the disc, but most of them start with an audio noise like it's being mastered or recorded in a studio. There is one track that starts off without this sound, but it has an audio narration that can't be disabled. Can anyone shed some light on what's going on here and how to get the correct track without the extra audio leader?

I had the same issue. Tried a bunch of the audio tracks with no luck. Just an FYI there are subtitles on the Hawaiian Vacation short.

OK, thanks! I guess I'll just have to live with the short audio piece at the beginning of the movie. BTW, I haven't had the chance to try it yet, but when I get the subtitles that show up, I just go into the copy that I'm going to rip and turn off all of the subtitles except for the forced dialog. Like I said, I haven't tried it yet, but I'll report back when I get results...

I don't have (or I got rid of) the subtitles on the Hawaiian Vacation short. I disabled all of the English subtitle tracks for the shorts when I ripped them with MakeMKV so they don't show at all.

I still can't get the right audio track on the main feature, but we keep pluggin...

To the piggy-back topic - Same issue with the invalid audio segment. :x Only 850.mpls has the correct segment maps but that one is missing the audio and subtitles (only stereo). All of the other versions, including 800.mpls (the English version) have the "left audio" segment map 01050.m2ts at the start. The chapter marks for these titles are also off by the 4.x seconds (first chapter should be 0 seconds, not 4).

As this doesn't happen when you play back the disc, could this be some sort of new method to screw up backup software like MakeMKV?

Is there any way to remove a segment from a .mpls when saving into a MKV?

Edit:
Part of this seems to be a problem with MakeMKV. 850.mpls does actually have all the audio tracks but MakeMKV isn't showing them. Looking at the disc through EAC3TO shows the information below whereas the MakeMKV UI only shows 1 stereo audio stream with no subtitles. All the other .mpls show the segment 1050 in the beginning via EAC3To also so I don't know how the disc is doing its trick not to play that segment (803.mpls seems to be the English version with the 3 commercials inserted (14 chapters 6.3GB) but again, it has segment 1050 at the beginning).

EAC3TO Result:
7) 00850.mpls, 0:21:35
[986+987+988+989+990+991+992+993+994+995+996+997+998+999+1000+1001+1002+1003]

Unless someone knows of some way to make it work now, I'll pull TSofT from my library and wait for a fix, . Thanks PaulCD for the follow-up info!

No problem. I still have no idea on how to address it via MakeMKV but I was able to get the end result by just using MKVMerge gui to map the segments I wanted together w/o the 1050 segment. I decided do the 803.mpls (English version w/ the three commercials). So (with the required AnyDVD enabled) I just dropped in segment 986 and then Appended all the others. I then dropped the result back into MKVMerge and deselected all the audio, subtitle and other bits I didn't want (only lossless audio and full English sub) and added in the chapter list I extracted via eac3to (and edited chapter names via notepad - here: http://1drv.ms/1wYjOm6 in case anyone wants to do the same and save a minute or two).
(803 playlist: Segment map: 1050,986,1033,1048,1034,1035,1049,1036,991,992,993,994,995,996,1037,1047,1038,1000,1001,1002,1003)

Of course if you wanted to do just the 800.mpls English version w/o commercials and get the lossless audio and subtitles missing from MakeMKV UI, you could do that quickly with mkvmerge w/o having to drop in segments since it doesn't have the 1050 segment.

Makemkv seems to misplace the DTS Express tracks in the ST TOS Star Trek Access episodes too. It looks like the bug is rather more prevalent then I thought.

No change with 1.9.0, still doesn't present all the audio options correctly.

It looks as though finding the correct tracks for a particular title may be more difficult than it seems. I'm wondering if EAC3To and MediaInfo just list all the tracks in the MT2S files and ignore the tracks listed in the playlist. I'll have to figure out a way to test that out.

If you set the minimum duration to zero, are there any small m2ts files listed as titles? Do they have the audio you're looking for?

I've not heard that you can specify the playlist to be different than the stream files they group but regardless, it is only MakeMKV that doesn't read it like the player or the other software does. Changing the duration doesn't do anything to a specific title/playlist, just adds more (which I validated in this case).

I'm not doubting MakeMKV may be losing information but some titles are constructed by Java, not by playlists. MakeMKV seems to detect the existence of the Java titles and tries it's best to list them, but it can only list the M2TS files that make up the title and not the full title itself. If there's a java title made up of multiple segments on the disc and you set the minimum duration low enough all the segments of that title should be listed. I don't know if this has anything to do with what you're going through but it can't hurt to check. MakeMKV doesn't normally list M2TS files independently (although for TV Shows I wish it would) so if there's any M2TS files in the title list MakeMKV is presenting then they must be there by way of Java and MAY contain the tracks that are missing.

Yep, I thought so. I just looked at 00100.mpls from the first disc of season 1 of Supernatural using both MediaInfo and Eac3To and they both showed that it contained a Japanese audio track, despite the fact that it's the region "B" "play all" version and therefore should only have European audio tracks. They also show all the European audio tracks in the region "A" "play all" 00101.mpls. So neither EAC3To nor MediaInfo are reliable indicators of the Tracks active in any particular title.
