Subtitle

Post by ton2e »

I have a .iso containing a BR movie with Dutch subtitles. This can be succesfully converted to a .MKV. However upon playing with VLC there is an error message and I can select Dutch subtitle but nothing is shown. I have done this using OSX 10.6.x.

Output MakeMKV:
Using direct disc access mode
AACS directory not present, assuming unencrypted disc
Evaluation version, 30 day(s) out of 30 remaining
File 00000.mpls was added as title #0
Operation sucessfully completed
Streaming server started, web server address is http://#error or http://localhost:51000
Streaming server failed to start
Saving 1 titles into directory /Users/tonio/Downloads
Forced subtitles track #3 turned out to be empty and was removed from output file
1 titles saved:

Error message VLC:
VLC does not support the "undf" audio or videdoformat.

I also have a demoversion of Moyea Bl-Ray Ripper and this converts it into .MP4 with selectable subtitles. No problem playing this move.

Looks to me like the problem is somewhere with MakeMKV.

You need to use latest "nightly" VLC build, previous versions don't have support for blu-ray PGS subtitles.

I use 1.0.5 and that is the latest (OSX) version I can find.

Besides that I need the converted movie to be played by a Media Player and that does not have apps like VLC. No idea what it uses for playing.

Hi Guys, After successfully compressing the resulting MakeMKV MKV file using HandBrake, I've then gone back and added back the PGS Subtitles into the MKV using MKVTools, but I appear to missing the "Forced" tracks, a lot of movies have forced subtitles for any brief foreign language scenes. I cant seem to easily identify them going through the lists of Subtitle tracks, none appear to have the Forced variable set. Any advise on this? Does BluRay do things differently? :?

If there is more than one subtitle in the movie and I'm not sure if makemkv added a subtitle with just forced subs, I use mkvcleaver to extract the .sup file and use bdsup2sub to look at the sup file and see what it is. It's easy to tell if it's full subtitles or just the forced ones. If makemkv created a forced subtitle, then I add both the forced and full subtitles to the video with mkvtoolnix and name them accordingly (forced as forced and full as default).
