Death Wish (2018) UK

Post by weehappypixie »

Hi,

Has anyone had any issues ripping Death Wish (2018) UK edition. Every time I try and rip it using 3 different machines the audio is out of sync from the very beginning yet the disc plays fine on my LG Bluray player.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

John

What are you playing the file with that has out-of-sync audio? Have you tried a different player?

Hi Woodstock,

I have tried it on 3 different systems with programs such as JRiver MC24, DVDfab Media Player 5, Windows 10 built in player  , VLC, PowerDVD. I have even tried copying the file to a USB stick and plugging directly into my LG Smart TV, LG BluRay player and Zidoo X10 media player all with the same results.

I think this disc may have some weird protection as I have tried ripping it to ISO and MKV passthrough using 2 other products (R**F*x & Dv**ab) and get the same results on all three machines fitted with BluRay drives. One drive is an LG BH10LS38, one is an Asus BW-16D1HT and the other is an HP CT21L and all exhibit the exact same results. When the original disc is inserted into the PC's/Laptop it does also does not play correctly with any player yet it plays fine on my LG and Denon LG players.

How would I get more info from this disc to help narrow down the issue. Every other disc I have rips fine.

Thanks,
John

If it is a new disc, then given the problems you are having, I would probably exchange it for a new copy.

Hi,

Going to give this a try and see where it goes. Hopefully I can rip the replacement disc and it's not a new protection.

Thanks,

I just got that bluray disc (USA retail best buy) a few weeks ago ant it ripped perfectly. Hopefully you should not have a problem with a replacement. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Hi,

I returned my copy of Death Wish (2018) UK Blu-ray to Amazon and bought a new version from my local supermarket. Again, I get the exact same results when trying to rip this.

The Universal logo plays OK with sound in sync then you get the Vertigo Releasing logo with no sound then you hear the MGM lion before you see the picture of the lion. When the lion roars there is no sound and everything is out of sync from here on on.

The disc says it has AACS V65 and has a volume label of UPHE_UPB1_725484.

It then takes around 2 - 3 hours to rip and if I enable the debug logs then it takes longer and crashes after 5 hours. I've tried various readers and machines.

Can anyone help please.

Hi,

I have now tried 5 different discs (2 from Amazon, 1 from ASDA, 1 from Morrisons and the last from Tesco) and still cannot rip this disc. The audio goes out of sync at the beginning of the rip.

Has anyone managed to do a straight 1:1 copy of this disk to MKV.

Thanks,

John

Changing audio codec mid-rip is highly unusual. And the change in time stamps doesn't help matters. If these are truly happening, the disk is authored poorly.

My recommendation is to send the information requested in the FAQ in my signature to support@makemkv.com for Mike to look at. He'll probably want additional information later.

Hi Woodstock,

I agree with you. It is very weird especially since I have tried many different copies from different suppliers, different systems with different drives. Surely I can't be the only one having issues with this UK version of the disc.

Anyway, I've emailed Mike now so we will see if he can work his magic as usual :D .

Thanks again.

I think the "audio changes" is the main problem. The stream encoding changes from 24 Bit per sample to 16 bits. I think it is a trailer with 24bps and after 26sec this changes to 16 bit. An Blu-ray Player should handle this if different M2TS streams are used. You can check this, by creating a decrypted backup and view the streams elements described in the MPLS (Playlist) to find out in which stream or at which point the change occures.

An MKV container can have only one value for one track to describe him, so different stream specifications are not possible.

Have you selected DTS HD/MSTR oder DD Plus tracks? If yes, what happens if you select only the core parts of this tracks? Or use a conversion of the audio tracks. Only for testing!
Good Luck :)

Hi,

I agree it looks like something in the stream. I have tried using a decrypted copy of the disc using a certain fox to create an unprotected iso and flat files to no avail.

I am trying to rip the DTS MA soundtrack along with the normal non HD versions.

When I play back the rip this is what I get always...

Universal Logo plays 100 % Sound and picture is in sync.
Another logo starts to play (Vertigo I think) and picture goes green for a second. No sound.
MGM Lion logo appears with no sound.
Start of movie starts with the MGM Lion roar and all sound out of sync now.

As told, make a try with deselected DTS MA and rip only the core non HD part. The core part has not 24bits per sample. If the same error occures, you can abort the rip.
Good Luck :)

Hi,

Ripping just the non HD soundtrack and the rip completed with only 2 warnings about audio being out of sync. Movie is at least watchable for now.
