3D Blu Ray

Post by djdaveyg »

Hi, This is my first post. Firstly, this program is fantastic, I have a new samsung TV and can play the MKV's directly on it.
My question is this... I have a 3d TV and have just got a copy of monsters vs aliens 3d. My intention is to back up the movie so i can access directly from my TV. I have test 3d clips and know that the TV can play 3d from a usb or HDD.

Are 3d Blu Rays a different file system to a regular Blu Rays?

Makemkv reads the disc but can only see 4gb of he disc, its like the main movie is missing.

I thought that it would be the same as a normal disc, but the picture would just be side by side for the 3d ready for the TV to convert.

Is this a limitation with my PC BD-ROM, which sees the disc, or is there some further encryption on a 3d disc? Can makemkv take any info from the disc to enable an update to read 3d discs, such as the avitar issue?

Any advise is welcome.

Thanks

Presently, it's a limitation in MakeMKV. BDAV and 3D support will be added very soon.

Hi Mike,

Any chance of a beta with a 3D support? I got my 3D Nvidia setup last week and should get my official Cloudy With a chance of Meatballs disc this week. Does anyone know of a software that will playbvack a 3D MKV? (Nvidia's Player?)

The 1.5.8 supports 3D blu-rays only in backup mode in a sense that it properly copies each file only once, not multiplying the disc size by two. The support for MKV is coming but 3D video in MKV would be like PGS in MKV - prepare to all sorts of troubles while converting or playing it back.

I'm looking forward to BDAV support.
AnyDVD HD and DVDFab passkey already have supported not only BDAV but also AVCREC.
So I hope that MakeMKV will support AVCREC,if possible. :D

BDAV BD discs are almost the same as AVCREC DVD discs except two differeces as follows.

(i) Folder name: BDAV_bd folder in an AVCREC DVD disc corresponds to BDAV folder in a BDAV disc.

(ii) Binding Nonce LBA Extend in an AVCREC disc
is always 00000000000000000000000000000000.
(There are 32 0's here.)

Does this only apply to BluRay?

What about just a 3D sd disk?

No Special support is possible or needed for 3d DVD, it just a standard DVD which you need to where red and green glasses for.

Hi folks, I'm a newbie to this forum.

I wonder if makemkv could have a similar feature like the openKMQ support of 3DBDNET from http://www.biohemmet.se ?
It seems to be a very simple way to view stereoscopic without any expensive 3D gear.
The open hardware project openKMQ even claims to work with "any LCD in tru color" and even the iPad.
I've got an iPad but don't have Windows to run AnyDVD and 3DBDNET, but I immediately ordered this iPad3D stand, hoping for help on the OSX and Linux front. According to the openKMQ admin they will soon also have less geeky DIY kits released and even work on support for retina display based iPhone4 and iPodTouch4. Poor Steve, fighting porn but soon even 3D porn will reach the iPhone ...

Look here http://openkmq.blogspot.com

Please help, so I don't have to ask any Win user for conversion time.

@freedomfighter

1) What you are requesting really has nothing toi do with the current purpose(s) of MakeMKV

2) What you want to do (view stereoscopic video) can already be easily and inexpensively done by using the "Stereoscopic Player", by Peter Wimmer, and an extremely low cost pair of red and cyan anaglyph glasses (made of plastic film and cardboard)

Thanks for the hint. I did use Peters great tool, long ago when I was still using Windows - does it now run on Ubuntu 10.x and OSX 10.6 ? Does it run on tablets ?
I don't trade color for ease of setup. We're not in the 50ies any longer. I only use anyglyphs for vertical adjustement, not for final viewing. A year ago, I threw away all crap including ColorCode.

So I guess the purpose of makemkv is to play 3D bluray content on systems without 3D capable HDMI player and/or 3D TV sets. Or is it to simply rip and copy disks ?

Please allow me to think ahead. It's a great feeling to switch on the iPad on commute train and watch CloudyWithaChance... in fullColor3D.
With the help of 3DBDNET, I already can (but I have to ask a Win user for render time).

@mark
Can I run your binary libs with a valid purchase key but call them from another GUI app ?

I recently gave makeMKV 1.5.8 a try to convert and BACKUP a 3DBDisk. As mentioned in other posts, stereo content is ommited from conversion to not double disk usage for single eye users. Unfortunately also the Backup skips important parts.
Why is it called backup when it skips content ?
Is there a manual way to decrvypt just the SSIF folder ? Or not to skip the second view. I could then use 3DBDBuster (Win32 :/) to finish the job properly.
Will all this be solved with the release of the official 3D feature ?

Hi!
Why is it called backup when it skips content ?
Be specific - What 3D Blu-ray disc are you talking about?

What 2D-related content, if any, is skipped? (It's my understanding that all 3D Blu-ray discs are/will be capable of 2D playback - which is all MakeMKV presently claims to backup)

This is what "mike admin" said most recently:

You now ask:
Will all this be solved with the release of the official 3D feature ?
What official 3D feature?
