I'm having some trouble with my BW-16D1HT, I bought it a long time ago so I have a really old version of the firmware:

Drive Information
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1HT
Revision: 1.01
Serial number: K9JF15G5815
Firmware date: 2113-02-05 19:30
Bus encryption flags: 1F

I've tried several UHD-discs but all makemkv says is "no disc" and I can't open it. Anyone knows if it does work in this old revision or will I have to upgrade to a later version but not the latest?
Already dicussed multiple times. Example:

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... .00#p64825

A forum search will yield more results if needed. In short, buy a new drive.

You will not be able to use this drive. It is too old.

I appear to have firmware 3.03..

Can i use the 3.01 windows flasher/firmware (BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched) posted earlier in this thread to bring it back to version 3.01? Do i just run the patcher under windows and point it to that file and it will flash it and be done?

Thanks

@markm75,

I've never used that tool myself. I have a feeling that it doesn't work for downgrading 3.03. (Not 100% sure on that!) I've used both the DOS method and the Windows ISO Method and they are pretty easy.

You will have to dump your original firmware first and store a copy of it somewhere, just in case you need it again. Then use the EEPROM Data Mover together with your dump and the clean 3.01 firmware to create a new 3.01 that includes your drive's important data. This new 3.01 is what you flash to your drive.

Which ever method you decide to use, just be sure you have saved a copy of your original firmware somewhere, before you flash the drive. This way, if it gets messed up somehow when flashing, you can restore it to it's original firmware.
Cheers :D

Yup the unlocked flasher does not work for downgrading asus 3.03 lg1.03 or lg1.01 on ns60s but does work for all others it's kinda good for cross flahing over USB ahci/raid and ide but doesn't work on the lastest firmware I use it for my self to jump between Asus 3.02 and LG 1.00 ns60 to get rid of the sleep bug

The Asus seems to struggle with 3 layer discs (in my experience).
I have 14 UHD discs and my BW-16D1HT (patched FW 3.02) can't read two of them (Close Encounters and Bridge on the River Kwai). Are they three layer discs?

Doesn't work to downgrade 1.01 to 1.00 on the WH16NS60? Or 3.03 to 3.01 on an ASUS drive? Since when? I just now downgraded an WH16NS60 from 1.01 to 1.00.

It works now because we have “DE” firmware.

i mean yeah thats what i was telling you the other day viewtopic.php?f=16&t=17768&start=15. Don't you think the person who edited the firmware knows what it does you either got it from my post or Martys or made it yourself from the ultra hax0r guide. it was not possible until February 5th 2019 so since before then it could not be done.

No, no, and no. Nothing has changed in my setup since the day I started flashing. Got firmwares from doozah and a couple from myce.

im talking about the unlocked flasher, yes we could always downgrade with dos flash. but im sure the firmware you got from d00zah was standard clean dumps not de byte changed firmware same with the stuff from myce i got the ns60 and 40n fw from there too and that would not work with the unlocked flasher until the byte change that we were informed of on feb 5th. so it was impossible with the unlocked flasher until then for everyone but Mike and lg/asus.

No he’s not, he has no idea wtf you guys are talking about.
I’ve not changed a thing with my flashing setup since the day I made it, and that was months before this new stuff came into being. I wasn’t even aware there was a 1.01 for the official drives until very recently because I’ve had a stash of 1.00 WH16NS60s for a good 6 months when no one gave a shit about that drive. When I got my hands on a 1.01 i immediately downgraded it to 1.00 no sweat, same with BU40s and UH12NS40-these guys having a service code of NS40 which I thought meant flashing not possible.

It’s only a matter of time though before the next generation of optical drives appear and are locked down like Fort Knox against all this firmware hacking.
I’d stock up now on the drives....
