ASUS BW-1601HT best firmware

Post by MajorKottan » Wed Apr 17, 2019 3:16 pm

Hi,

What is the best firmware for ASUS
Produkt: BW-16D1HT

Actual firmware:
Firmware-Datum: 2117-03-31 14:26
Markierungen der Bus-Verschlüsselung: 1F
Highest AACS version: 66

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 3.01
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Possible, not yet enabled

With this drive it takes a very long time to rip UHDs (about 9 hours or more) and Blue Rays (about 4 hours).

I tried to update to 3,10 using ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer_(Modified).exe but always received then:

"DeviceIOControlError: Error Code 1117. I can't issue Command through SPTI"

Any ideas, recommendations ?

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and guess you have that thing in some sort of USB enclosure, yes? If so, what it is?

No USB Enclosure the drive is attached directly to SATA Connector on my motherboard.
Firmware 3.01 is ok ? Or should I update ?

My gut is still telling me something is wrong with the drive. That error when trying to update... Just doesn't feel right. This sata port that it's connected to... It's set to ahcpi in the BIOS right? It's not set to ide I hope.

The problem is solved after a BIOS update of the motherboard.
Now I can rip UHDS in about 50 minutes and Blue Rays in about 30 min. without getting any error and I am happy.

However should I update the firmware of the drive too ?

If I understand all these postings on the forum. 3.10 is the newest (and best ?)
Any recommendations ?

I'm using the MK 3.10 firmware on mine and it works great. Remember it must be the MK version of it found in the Custom Firmware thread at the top of this forum. Some of us have noticed improved reading of triple layer discs with that firmware. I'm glad you got the BIOS sorted out.

@Majorkottan Good that your problem was resolved. I ‘m also using an Asus BW16D-1HT blu-ray drive with Firmware 3.01 in Mac OSX. For the time being will be using Firmware 3.01 until such time I would decide on the MK3.10. Average ripping time for 4K UHD discs is 35 mins to 50 mins depending on the file size. For standard blu-ray discs, average ripping time is 25 mins to 35 mins .

Does your speed report as "Unrestricted read speed: Possible, not yet enabled"?
I am investigating a weird speed issue.
My BW-16D1HT rip about 50% slower than my BC-12B1ST when riping DVD?
I tried WK/DE FW 3.10 and 3.02 seems to be the same.

@redyul My Unrestricted Read Speed is also not yet enabled. But Billycar11 is Correct in stating it’s best not to worry too much on the read speed. I've noticed you've asked this same question in other threads. I’m not too concerned about the Unrestricted Read Speed. I had a chat with a PC tech guy who repairs blu-ray, DVD optical drives. He mentioned it’s better to use slow to medium speeds in ripping or burning discs for a better quality and lower the chances of the optical drive breaking down.

Redyul,

There is a regression with BD and DVD ripping speeds. In past versions ripping BD and DVD was 50 to 100% faster than 4K UHD . I remember observing speeds of 12 to 14x ripping a BD and currently it's around 4 to 6X.

If you really wanted to,<doozah> maintains the library of daily builds so one could figure out when the speed issue began and send information to Mike. I'll that for the initial release he optimized the code for UHD 4K blu ray and will do the same for DVD and BD in a future release. I can't read his mind but I'm thinking what would I do.

Mac makes a good point as well. Can you imagine the BU40N slim drive with the software throttle removed? That drive would rattle itself to pieces as it reached 15X rip speed, or 2.5 it's current max of 6X :-).

Anyways, known issue but would not hurt to email support@makemkv.com and document your findings. Thank you!

Well read are digital, it succeed or fails, I understand that sometime if it goes to fast it starts have re-reads that will slow down or cause disk read failure.
Thnx for your feedback
